May we never forget. "Vox Populi" Is a 24x48 mixed media on canvas (acrylic, pen and charcoal) This piece is representative of many things but at the forefront is the spirit of American disobedience. The one phrase that emerged while trying to think of this concept was "to wake a sleeping giant". With a little research and a bit of digging back into my college years, a whole lot of hurt, fear, love and painstakingly long hours, "Vox Populi" (For The People) was created. As an artist, I chose to speak on only two subjects within this piece, leaving the rest for viewer interpretation. "Vox Populi" is intentionally ambiguous with hopes that no matter the viewer’s political affiliation, an intimate connection can be born. As an American artist, I have always believed that Benjamin Franklin put it most eloquently when he compared America to a rattlesnake. My name is Samantha Strong, I have been a citizen of Onslow County and a resident of Jacksonville for the majority of my life since my birth at Naval Medical Hospital on Camp Lejeune July 19, 1991. I was born to father (at the time) Sgt. Mark B. Windham of Billerica Massachusetts and Melissa A. Windham (Curtis) of Castleberry Florida. I began my artistic career in 2004 at the age of 13 as apprentice to Karen Cowan Edwards. From which time I have also studied at North Carolina School of the Arts (NCSA), Coastal Carolina Community College (CCCC) and East Carolina University (ECU).
